How to choose a software development partner

Five questions to ask before you hire a team to build your software — so you avoid surprises and get what you actually need.

GuideBusiness

Hiring a team to build your software is a big decision. The right partner saves you money and stress; the wrong one costs you both. Here are five questions worth asking before you commit.

1. Can they show you real work?

Anyone can talk a good game. Ask to see case studies and, ideally, live projects. Look for problems similar to yours.

2. How do they handle the unknown?

Software projects always uncover surprises. A good partner plans for it — with frequent check-ins and the flexibility to adjust, not a rigid contract that punishes change.

3. What happens after launch?

Launch is the start, not the finish. Ask about support, maintenance and what it costs to keep things running and secure.

4. Who actually owns the code?

You should. Make sure the agreement gives you full ownership of the source code and access to your own infrastructure.

5. Do they communicate clearly?

If they explain things in plain language now, they’ll keep you informed later. If you’re confused in the sales conversation, it won’t get better.

At Zonova Tech, we built our process around exactly these concerns — transparent quotes, frequent releases, and support that doesn’t disappear after launch. If that sounds like what you’re after, let’s talk.
