Inside the product
The idea
Zonova Shop is our in-house venture, built around a simple promise: Celebrate Everything. It brings occasion gifting into one place, so ordering flowers, a cake or a custom-printed shirt for someone doesn’t mean juggling three different sellers, three carts and three delivery promises.
We built it end to end, from product thinking and design through to engineering and launch, as proof of what we can ship end to end.
What we built
At its heart, Zonova Shop is a multi-vendor marketplace spanning four verticals covering flowers, cakes, clothing and gifts, unified under one cart, checkout, search and account. Discovery is designed around occasions rather than SKUs, so buying for a birthday or an anniversary feels like a single, coherent journey.
Every vendor runs their own dashboard: a per-vertical catalog, a real-time order feed, quotations, a bidding inbox and staff management. Above them, a central super admin oversees shops, users and roles, platform analytics, AI usage logs and settings, the control plane that keeps a growing marketplace healthy.
AI woven through the experience
AI isn’t a bolt-on here. It runs through the product as 37 distinct Gemini actions:
- Photo Match lets you upload a photo of something you like and it’s matched against live shop inventory.
- Design studios include a bouquet customizer with live preview, a cake designer, and a clothing design studio built on a Konva canvas with art generation, slogans, recolor, background removal and virtual try-on.
- AI support chat with voice input and read-aloud.
A marketplace for custom designs
For anything off-catalog, Zonova Shop turns commissioning into a marketplace. A customer saves a design, pins a location, and nearby shops are notified and bid for the work. The customer reviews the bids and awards one, dropping the winning shop’s offer straight into the cart.
Real-time, everywhere
Orders are live. A status change fans out across in-app, push, WhatsApp, SMS and email, so customers and vendors always see the same state. Payments run through PayHere alongside cash on delivery, with island-wide delivery.
The whole thing ships as one codebase to two platforms. A PWA with SEO prerendering and a native Android app via Capacitor (push, camera, speech and share), and speaks English, Sinhala and Tamil throughout.
